WinterPark Series #3 and #4
Saturday July 10 was the Valley Point-To-Point XC race. The Pro/Expert/Sport men fields did a 23.5 mile course with 2600 feet of climbing. The fastest time of all racers for the day was Brad Bingham (Pro) at 1:39:09 just to put things in perspective. Continue Reading »

Bailey Hundo Mountain Bike Race
We had a hard pace for the first 6 miles and then it started to split up before we got into the 40+ miles of single track. The conditions were dry and fast and it was a comfortable 75 degrees. The single track was VERY GOOD, traveling on the Colorado trail and most noteworthy the Green Mountain Trail. Deejay Birch and I traded spots back and forth for the entire single track section. When we hit the pavement I got to pace line with recently retired road pro Tom Zirbel until he took off up the road. Every competitor felt the climb out of Deckers, CO up Stoney Pass, even Tom Zirbel who I came upon taking a break under a tree half way up. It was hilly forest service road back to the finish with a “surprise” waiting. Senator Romer said there was a special Surprise for the riders right before the finish! This kept me riding the last few miles trying to guess what this great “surprise” was going to be. A ride on a conveyer belt to the wood yard where the BBQ was? Maybe Lance Armstrong was going to be at the finish to shake our hands? Big belt buckles for the finishers? I couldn’t wait. Then I saw the “surprise”. A half mile hike a bike with a good 20% grade of loose gravel…..WOW..at least there was a flat 500 feet to the finish line that a rider could pedal over the line! I crossed the finish line an immediately began to eat! Hamburgers, chips, everything sounded good! Then I had to lie down.

Deer Trail SM3
The Train Taylor, Hendo, Ruben and myself lined up for 58 miles of out and back rollers. A fairly strong breeze out of the north was gonna make this all about position given the full menu of head/tail and crosswinds.
The first out and back, into the wind, saw all four of us rolling through at the front. As soon as I saw the cone for the 20 foot wide U-turn, I gave it gas to get around first. That proved to be the right thing as those of us who made it around first immediately stepped on the throttle, and, with the tailwind, had things stretched out already with guys unable to get back on. Assault on Allen’s Park (Sat May 8, 2010)
We assembled at the Oval at 9AM on a crisp winter day – wait a minute, it was actually May 8th! Nonetheless I was wearing a short sleeved jersey with thermal arm warmers, a long sleeve jersey and a thermal vest. In my back pocket I had a light weight wind jacket to keep the chill down when we reached the summit around 9500 feet. I was also packing a pair of long fingered gloves, a headband, toe warmers and thermal leg warmers. Continue Reading »

Lookout Mtn HC & Sandstone Crit
After working in Portland Monday-Friday I decided to pony up and do the Lookout Mountain Hillclimb, mostly to get BAR/BAT points and to help Dan try for a “w”. I know he hasn’t been climbing much lately but his form has really been coming around. Dan picked me up at 530am, less than 12 hours after returning from Portland…ouch.
